The Yeezy story
Chunky dad-shoe proportions were still a punchline when the 500 landed in 2018, and this pair helped turn that silhouette into its own design category. The slab Adiprene+ midsole borrows its wavy geometry from adidas's old Feet You Wear line, and suede, leather, and mesh layer over it with a deliberately unfinished, workwear-adjacent texture.
Yeezy launched in 2015 as a design partnership pairing Kanye West's eye for sculptural silhouettes with knit and foam manufacturing techniques built for scale. Its muted, tonal palettes and primeknit uppers broke from sneaker culture's usual loud colorways and reshaped what resale-driven hype could look like. The line's low-top runners and slip-on foam forms became some of the most imitated shapes of the last decade.
