The Nike story
Unchanged in silhouette since 1982, the Air Force 1 hides a full-length Air-Sole unit inside a firm foam carrier under a full-grain leather upper that ages into its own patina. The pivot-circle outsole and stacked midsole add up to real heft on the scale, but that solidity is the entire appeal of a shoe that has outlasted four decades of trend cycles in the same triple-white colorway.
Founded in 1964 as Blue Ribbon Sports by Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight, Nike grew from a car-trunk sneaker importer into the largest athletic brand on the planet. Its innovation lab has spent five decades chasing marginal gains, from the waffle outsole to full-length Air units to today's foam midsoles. Nike's catalog spans running, basketball, and lifestyle silhouettes worn as much on the street as on the track.
